IMBUE

IMBUE requested a new logo and identity for their videography studio based in Hertfordshire. James (IMBUE) is responsible for the photography and videography of Arsenal Fan TV, the world’s largest independent football fan network. He also plays bass guitar in Trash Boat, a punk rock band that often tours internationally across Asia and the United States.

With constant travel and a continuous presence in the media world, it was essential to create an identity for James that felt grounded and professional. Something solid to support the rush of his industry and reflect the high standard expected in his line of work.

With constant travel and a continuous presence in the media world, it was essential to create an identity for James that felt grounded and professional. Something solid to support the rush of his industry and reflect the high standard expected in his line of work.

IMBUE means to permeate someone or something deeply with a feeling, quality, idea or physical substance. That meaning sits at the heart of how IMBUE operates. Every photograph and video James captures is made to leave the viewer with a sense of something perfected and complete, with nothing missing and nothing left unresolved.

The star within the wordmark represents the full potential of that standard. It marks the point where a piece of work becomes everything it set out to be, and it gives the identity a single detail that carries the same sense of completion.

IMBUE stands for

James wanted a brand you could wear. After some brief strategy work and moodboarding, it was clear the identity needed to relate deeply to him as an individual, and to feel at home on a clothing rail. Something worn with pride, and a long way from your typical videographer logo.

To tie the brand to videography, we added a blur effect to the logo. This was to make the logo appear slightly out of focus, the way a lens catches a subject in motion. It’s a detail that suits how James lives and works.

Another important detail for IMBUE was how flexible the brand needed to be in use. James needed a logo that scaled and communicated the brand at multiple levels, so it could be seen on rings, guitars and microphones, to name a few. That’s why we developed a supporting icon to sit alongside the wordmark. Both designs are impactful enough to communicate independently and are never seen together.
